I am having the same problem with my Inspiron 1545. I have spent 4 and a half hours with dell trying to fix it. They put completely new parts into my computer but that doesn't seem to do the trick. They think now it might be the drivers so my might have to uninstall all the software in my computer. Dell is so frustrating. I am not even gonna bother with it. I'm planning on purchasing a new computer in a couple months anyway. If you don't want to go through the hastle of dealing with the dell people for hours on end like i did I would suggest getting some external speakers that plug into your laptop to play music. The sound quality should be fine with external speakers and you can get them for cheap at any electronics store.

I just had this problem, I took out the battery and put in the power and the sound came back perfectly. It must be the battery!
Oh and the sound just went strange again..... great.

... could be the white/pink noise caused by ac/dc adapter cycle peaks and dips especially whilst recording!

... try just running off from the battery when recording or in voice chat.
