Datastor Commuter Disk Driver Version1.03 for DOS(Para Disk)

December 10, 2016 at 11:07:20
Specs: MS-DOS, CPU80286/1MB
Cannot find Datastor Commuter Disk Driver Version 1.03 for DOS on the internet. I have an external parallel port hard drive with the older type of ASIC, the enclosure is called Para Disk (Parallel Port Disk Subsystem K-LS). The readme file states that my version of the controller will work only with the driver version older than v2.00 and that v1.03 supports already 8.4GB size. The website has driver v3.10 and v4.10 (both display "No Commuter disk found.) . My controller chip is covered by some black solid glue, so I cannot see the controller type number. The drive works correctly with the driver v1.02 but does not format IDE HDDs larger than 528MB to their full capacity. Right now, I am using a 1624MB IDE HDD successfully formatted in it to 528MB, would like to use the whole real capacity. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I am new to posting questions, please explain how to follow the answers. Is it as easy to search the forum for my question name?

Easiest way to follow answers (and add any further comment) would be to save this link so that you can come straight back to it.

Otherwise you will find this post on the "Drivers" forum on the right hand side as "Datastor Commuter Disk Driver Version1.03 for DOS(Para Disk)". It also carries the number 11217 if you use Message Find, which is also over on the right (Drivers forum).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

There is more info that I can provide on the driver. The first thing is that the driver behaves the same way, no matter if used on a 286 PC or on a new Intel Core i5 PC with UEFI. That is: If I use v1.02, it works. If I use v4.10, or v3.10, or v4.00 then it does not find any "Commuter Disk". The driver for DOS consists of two files plus a ReadMe file. The files are CDISK.SYS (the driver) and CDISK.EXE (the partitioning and formatting program). Any ideas so far?
