Specs: Microsoft Windows 7 HP, Intel Core i7 Q740@1.73GHz / 4G RAM/
I recently took the decision to clear the partition on my laptop. I've reinstalled windows 7 home premium (x64bit) and activated it using the phone service. However when i tried to install the drivers using the utilities disk it doesn't seem to want to work. The disk seems to detect the hardware by showing a tick next to the driver but it wont install. It just unpack onto my hard drive and then an error message pops up. There is a recovery partition on there that appears to be about 7GB big but i dont know what to do with it or if there is anything that can be done.
Is it possible anyone could help me with this situation?

You should really have installed the drivers before activation as there's a good possibility you may have to reactivate due to 'hardware changes', also the activation should have been automatic then, no need for phone activation.

Anyway, how did you do the reinstallation? The recovery partition on Dell machines is usually accessed by pressing Ctrl + F11 during boot. Did you use a Dell disk, or a different one?

I did try and install the drivers before and after activation but still nothing would install. I did read that you could access the recovery partition by pressin Ctrl+F11 or Alt+F11 but nothing happened when i tried. I didn't recieve a windows reinstall disk from dell only the utilities disk with the drivers. The windows reinstall disk i used was from my flatmate.

Was the version of Windows on your flatmate's disk a full Win7 disk or a reinstallation one? - if the latter, what brand of PC was it for? If you are sure the recovery partition is still there then give it another go. If it isn't working then contact Dell, tell them that and they should hopefully send you a recovery disk.
