cant get internet after installing windows xp because of a blue screen of death incident. I believe my laptop already had windows xp installed on it before the crash. how can i install drivers needed for internet to work if i need internet to get the download to fix my laptop. ive been looking for answers for hours and im quite frustrated. ive tried connecting via control panel/ network connections, wireless network setup, network set up wizard, looked through internet options. i went to device manager and yes i have yellow exlamations. ive set up automatic updates but it says i need internet to get that to work. ive looked through network troubleshooting. my laptop is a latitude d610 and like i said im almost completely positive it had windows xp pro before the crash and thats what i installed on to fix the blue screen of death. in network connections there is nothing at all, normally there are listings of conections to choose that u click on to get connected. the task bar has nothing but a warning for no antivirus, its safe to disconnect device, and windows messanger with a lil red x because it cant connect. oh and the time oc. also while messing with this i accidently hit the windows movie maker tab in the all programs list and it says " windows movie maker cannot be used because the required audio hardware cannot be found on your computer." i am listing everything i can think of to get help on the matter so if thats irrelevent please ignore it however in my search i have seen alot of answers that didnt help at all and were only rather curt and rude and am trying to aviod such postings because i just want some help please, i am completely at a lose as to how i am supposed to get drivers that i cannot get without internet but my main issue after reloading windows xp is a lack of internet.... please please please help T_T oh also its windows xp pro sevice pack 2

You need to download the drivers using whatever computer you are posting here with, then copy the driver installers using a memory stick, from the working computer to the broken computer. Ideally you need to install chipset drivers first (which may include the LAN driver) and then any other drivers you want/need.

With Dell computers there's a 'service tag' number on the base - this will take you directly to the drivers for your machine.

oh thank you!!! i would hug you if i could :) man im such a idiot i didnt even think of that. now about the chipset drivers, on the list on the driver website it says theres two, now i looked on the device manager and i cant find chipset anywhere, now my next question is should i just get both the chipset drivers on the list or is it bad to do that if they arent messed up on my laptop?

It wont be listed as chipset in device manager, it will be things like SMBus, or the dreaded 'unknown device'. You can sometimes get away without the chipset driver, but they do have an effect on the system and because they are the 'base' drivers to which other things are attached it is best to install them first.

If the chipset drivers are both the same (intel, nvidia or whatever) then just choose the one with the higher version number. If they are different chipsets then it gets a bit more complicated because you obviously need the relevant one for your motherboard. 'Usually', if you try to install the wrong one you'll get a 'supported hardware not found' error message, in which case you want the other one, but it may be a bit of trial & error.
