Solved Cant click on anything at login screen

June 25, 2011 at 14:45:43
Specs: Windows XP
I just updated some drivers and then manually restarted my computer. then when i tryed to log back in it woudnt do anything, so then i tryed shutting it down and i clicked on it but nothing would open when i clicked on it. then i clicked on other peoples accounts at the login screen and realized that none of them worked. Im thinking it has to due with the drivers that i just updated, what else could it be? thats the only thing i did today on that computer.

Clicking on the icon to log in no password box comes up.

✔ Best Answer
When the logon screen comes up, press the up and down keys on the keyboard. Does it select a user?

It sounds like the mouse driver might be corrupted and needs to be repaired. Does the mouse work after you log in? If it does, it might just be that Windows XP isn't booting in the right order, and loading the mouse driver too late.

Well, I've never fixed the mouse not working at the login screen before, so I think you will just have to live with it.

With your other question, sure, why not.

If the screen is all jambled and black when running the games, then probably your current video card does not have enough memory to process the game, otherwise saying you need a video card with more memory to ever do those games. A driver update may help the card to make use of more of it's memory better, as you noticed when you could see colors after you updated the driver, but your video card probably still needs a physical upgrade to get it working.

Also if you'd like, you can post the game that won't work, and I can look up the system requirements and find the video card upgrade you need, and guide you through the process of installing the upgrade (I've done it a few times).

Yes, but you don't need a great video card. Post the game that won't work. I mean a card that has 512MB of memory only costs ~$40, and that will work with most games.

Looking at the system requirements, pretty much ANY new rig will be able to do the game, so choose the computer you want! :)

And, you're welcome!
