canon mg3500 wireless printer install

July 30, 2014 at 14:09:25
Specs: Windows 7
tried downloading software driver mp68-win-mg3500-1_01-ea32_2 during install it tries to detect printer (which is switched on) and cannot find it with error message:

The printer could not be detected on the network.

If teh printers network setup has not been completed complete the network setup and click re detect
To learn how to set up network click instructions

these instructions are of no use as my network is correctly configured there isn't a firewall.

Is it possible to download and install drivers before following the detect process? I don't have access to a cd rom drive

Have you read the manual carefully regarding setting the printer up for the first time - especially the drivers. Canon are very specific on how "they" do things; so read and follow the manual carefully.

Typically one connects the printer via usb very early on, in order to then set up the networking side.

Do NOT connect the printer until you reach the point in the installation/set up that says to.

This link will take you to a Canon on-line manual. Suggest you bookmark it; and save the contents to your computer. And as soon as you can, print it out too (via usb connection, via another computer).

The drivers can be found on the Canon site here, and all manuals etc. too. Drivers are top of the list - select your OS

Don't bother or mess with firmware...

Most of Canon references are for the 3520 and it would appear the 3500 and 3520 are more or less the same...

Again - you do need to have an an initial usb connection to get setup started correctly and then set up wifi.

Also this printer use the dreaded wps system. If you able to make the wifi links and security settings manually (and the manual may tell you how) do so. It's generally considered a better and more secure way to it. For wps your router must also support that option; and many older routers don't.
