Can a “.bin” file update my DVD drive?

Specs: Windows XP, 1GB
I wish to update my Mats---a DVD-RAM SW-9581 drive on my PC (WinXp SP3). The only relevant downloadable update files I can find are zip files containing only a “.exe” file (that looks for the wrong drive!) and a “.bin” file (raw binary). But, for updating, device manager specifically requires a “.inf” file. Is it possible to update from the “.bin” file, (which I think is a “virtual” disc)?

Windows XP do not require driver files for Optical Drives, if the Optical Drive is not functioning you have a different issue.............

... the "bin" file may be a firmware update flash; but you must have the correct one or you'll end up with a "coffee cup holder" instead of a dvd writer!
