atapi dvd dc 16X8X5 - DVD+R or DVD-R?

Specs: Windows XP
I have the Atapi dvd dc 16X8X5 CD-ROM. Need to record some videos. The front of the CD drive says RW, DVD+R DL. So I got a DVD+R, but I can't record anything on it, it just remains blank. I did record some videos to 2 DVDs, but I didn't pay attention if they were DVD+R or -R. What do I do?

Is your optical drive at the latest firmware level?

Optical drives sometimes do not work well with certain types of media. The drive manufacturers may periodically update the firmware to improve this capability.

So check your firmware and see if there is a later update which may improve matters.

I did a quick check on you model and it appears that it is a BenQ DW1670 black Bulk version (I could be wrong). I found it here:
http://www.myce.com/cd-dvd-writers/...

It does appear to support most commonly available CD & DVD media.

Here is a link to the firmware updates for it:
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Fir...

You can check your current firmware level as follows:
start > Right click on My Computer and select properties
Click on device manager
In the resulting Device Manager window that pops up, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives
Right click on your optical drive and select properties
Click on the details tab
Your firmware level will be listed.

Hope it helps
