Solved Sound Blaster detected and working but no sound

October 26, 2017 at 20:50:30
Specs: DOS 6.22, 486/16mb
I have a Unisys CWS4002 486 PC. I added a Sound Blaster 16 (CT4170). I installed the creative plug n play driver and the sound blaster driver. Games detect it and announce to me that everything is golden. However, no sound is coming from the speakers. I plugged the same wire and speaker into my phone and sound is fine there. so it is definitely the computer.

I checked the mixer software, nothing is muted. Does anyone have any ideas? The card was purchased on ebay. I fear it might be bad.

There can't be much wrong with the sound card if your system is detecting it okay.

Make sure you plug the speakers in to the correct jack on the sound card (usually the one with the green bezel, that's the output for speakers or headphones).

If you plug the speakers in to one of the other jacks they won't work because those other two jacks are inputs: line-in [blue] and microphone-in [pink].

I have a similar issue: installed an ISA SB (CT2980) card, the drivers see it, but now sound comes out when I test it in something like 'The Dig' in DOS. The CD ROM attached to the IDE controller part works fine, too.
