simple batch could not find full path\file

Specs: Windows Vista SP1 Ultimate 64 bit
I've created a batch file to eliminate specific duplicate files, by name. It consists only of lines that look like the following:

del "C:\Users\Joe\Documents\file1.doc"
del "C:\Users\Joe\Documents\file2.ppt"
del "C:\Users\Joe\Documents\lastfile.xls"

If I cut and paste any line from the batch file to the command line, it executes perfectly.

However, when executing within the batch file, I get the following message for each line:

Could Not Find del "C:\Users\Joe\Documents\file1.doc"

I'm at a loss. I don't want to have to delete each of the several thousand duplicate files one at a time.

Any idea what's wrong?

It's saying 'Could Not Find del "C:\Users\Joe\Documents\file1.doc"? With the DEL? That would indicate it's not seeing DEL as a command and is assuming the entire line is a single command.

Is there a space between DEL and the rest of the line? What happens if you add a second space there?

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
