Solved Removing partitions from DOS 6.22/OS2 Warp drive

November 17, 2019 at 05:33:38
Specs: MS DOS 6.22 & OS/2 Warp, P75 16Mb

I am trying to reformat an old Quantum 640 MB drive that had previously contained a dual boot system with Dos 6.22 and OS/2 Warp. Fdisk seems unable to remove the OS/2 Warp partition. OS/2 was installed on an extended partition which cannot be removed as it contains a 'logical drive'. When I try to remove the 'logical drive' it claims there isn't one.

My next step was to try a low level format but I cannot find any old DOS based utility for this on a quantum drive. Powermax 4.23 made by Maxtor was tried but it needs to be run under Win32.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks :)

Never tried it on an OS/2 partition, but delpart.exe may be of some assistance:

Just curious as to what exact message you get when you try to remove the extended partition with FDISK?

"Channeling the spirit of jboy..."

Yeah delpart should work if 'remove non dos partition' in fdisk doesn't. An LLF shouldn't be necessary but if so I've used MAXLLF

on various drives. It's dos program. However it's probably best to try a zero-fill utility that just writes zeros to the drive before using a true LLF.

Thanks, delpart worked like a charm. Appreciate the info about maxllf also.
