Pretty much like a Windows command window. The bigger problem is likely to be finding an application that will read the files.

Specifically, what is the info you're trying to retrieve (documents, images, an entire drive?). Also identifying the specific model (other than just "Wang") of the machine, and version of DOS would help in determining what action you can take.

Does it boot up to a C:\> prompt? If so type VER and enter. That will tell you what dos version you have.

As mentioned already, we need more info. With dos you can't just 'open a file'. You have to run the application that uses that type of file and open it that way. The only files that run on their own are ones with a .bat, .com, or .exe extension and those aren't going to be data files, which I suspect is what you want to open.

Oooh, look at all the pretty balloons.

Hi Jason, it may help if you advised both Make *AND* Model.

Also, are you sure it has a hard disc *AND* the operating system was dos.

Some pc's from that time only had floppy discs, and/or used the CPM os.

If it does not boot, advise your location (city/state) and possibly someone will be nearby who can send you a dos boot floppy.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I have a similar problem with my MS-DOS HeathKit computer. I have both WORD5.0 and MultiPlan4.2 installed and have files created years ago that I can only list, can't seem to actually execute them. MultiPlan gets inot the MP process but just hangs up and Word won't get into word and hangs computer.
