Solved Need Dos WipeInfo files ... help!

Specs: Windows 3.1.1 on dos, 286
Hi, I have an old IBM PS/2 that I wish to sell on. One female owner, etc, etc. However I wish to wipe the harddrive first. I have tried various of the utils available on the net but for various reasons (one of them being its a 286) I don't seem to be able to get any of them to work.

Most similar requests for help on the net seem to have been resolved by the user trying Norton Utilities Wipeinfo for Dos. I can't find anyone I know who has a copy of this. I was hoping someone on this forum may have the files they could zip up and email to me.

The PC is a bit of a museum piece and I'd like it to go to someone who really wants it, but don't want to sell it with old data accessible. I've got all the old manuals, original monitor and keyboard etc. Just need a copy of wipeinfo.

Would really appreciate anyone's help. Thanks :)

Yeah, that was me then. I thought you'd posted after I sent them but I see I sent them a couple hours after. I just hadn't noticed your posting.

Can't help you with WipeInfo as it was part of Norton Utilities software and is now obsolete. However, you could try DBAN (Darik's Boot And Nuke) which runs from a bootable floppy or CD: http://www.dban.org/

Be aware that DBAN wipes everything off the hard drive, including the operating system. If you want to preserve the operating system don't use DBAN. I don't know of any DOS drive wiper that preserves the operating system.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately from what I can see DBAN needs a minimum of 386 and I have a 286.

However someone has kindly sent me wipeinfo, and I am in the process of cleaning the drive now.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post. Which is now solved :)

If this reply comes up twice apologies ... not sure where the first when went!

I did reply with thanks to the person who sent me the files. I didn't recognise your username via the email I received. If you didn't receive a reply from me then I didn't receive your msg/mail for some reason.

However I have what I need now, but many thanks for your time in responding. :)
