Looking for old DOS software: Collaborator 3

August 22, 2011 at 23:36:50
Specs: DOS
I'm looking to track down a copy of Collaborator 3 Plus for DOS. If you have the demo, even, that would be great. Would happily buy a CD off anyone who has a copy they want to part with. I've been searching around the web and come up empty handed. The old url for the site that sold the software is http://www.collaborator.com. The site op is MIA and not answering emails, but this was a fairly popular writing program back in the late 90s and I figure there has to be someone out there is sitting on an old CD or archive somewhere. Many thanks!

Nick

Googling:-

collaborator 3 dos

produces a number of hits, including:-

http://www.starcomp.net/plots.html

http://www.collaborator.com/custom....

Which appear current.

Not inexpensive, but not that high either.

You might get lucky with ebay, but it was not that popular an application package, being somewhat specialist. Worth looking occasionally though.

Please advise back on progress.

Good luck - Keep us posted.

Mike,

Many thanks for the reply. The Collaborator website does appear current, but if you use the WayBackMachine you'll see that his Specials page seems to be running a script. The deal always expires at the end of the archived/current month. I emailed the contact on the site and haven't heard anything back in a week... but it is possible that he'll get it eventually. Being as it is a Juno address, though ;) I have my doubts.

As for the demo at starcomp.com, thanks for that as well. I actually grabbed that one this weekend as well and emailed John from that site. He's still around and answering emails at that address, but said that he didn't have the software anymore. He said he'd try to reach out to the Collaborator folks with his old contact info, though. Just FYI, the demo at that site is a limited version that will only save the first 24 questions. Definitely better than nothing, but it only made me want the real version even more. There is also a less limited demo floating around that is either 15 or 30 days in length (and can be reset by deleting a file, conveniently enough) that is completely full featured. I really should have dumped all I've discovered over the past week on here... ;)

What I know:

Wayback machine has old vendors at http://web.archive.org/web/19970603...

From originalvision.com: http://web.archive.org/web/19970704...
This one links a download of the demo at ftp://ftp.greenheart.com/jmorley/c3plusm.exe

Starcomp.net has a demo still available, though it is a crippled one: http://www.starcomp.net/demos/coll3...
Better than nothing, I guess.

In the demo, the application has files named in the format of collab3.dct and etc. The actual program is probably named collab3.exe (unverified).

Anyway, majorly appreciate the help, Mike. I know this software is out there somewhere... Maybe Bryn from Communicator.com will get back to me, as I'd love to buy it from him, but I think he's about as MIA as this project has become.

Nick
