If it's under warranty, take it back for a refund. The hard drive is bad. If it's not under warranty then go ahead and run the chkdsk /f. That will mark the bad spots so they won't be used. However, if there's too many or if they're in the boot sector the drive may still not be usable.

But assuming it is usable then after running chkdsk delete the existing partition containing the interrupted dos installation (you may need to reboot to do that). Then recreate the partition and start the XP installation.

Obama's a 2012'er. That explains EVERYTHING..

Is the hard drive blank? trying to reinstall Free-DOS or is it a MS-DOS disk? If it's Free-DOS look at the download version (Free-DOS v1.0 website: www.freedos.org ) then try downloading a new Free-DOS. otherwise, I can e-mail you a compressed version of DOS 6.2.0. uncompress it, copy it to a CD (do you have a Writable CD drive on the computer that's working?) and try that. DOS 6.20 takes less space than Free-DOS and may not use the bad sectors on the hard drive. Next time, please be more specific on details and OS's.
