Had a Ghost Disk corrupt on install - Dell In

Dell / Inspiron 9800

Specs: Windows XP

My wife let me have her older Inspriron after she bought a newer one. I had the system ghosted after an install of Windows XP Media Edition years ago. First disk took several HOURS to install ( should have known then ). Second disk only took a few minutes..to tell me it was corrupted. I have no recovery or Windows disk that came with it. Only thing I do have is a systems utility and antivirus disk ( Dell )..but they don't seem to help. I have a Dell oem Vista that came with newer Dell, and it does start to load, but when it reboots itself on installation it won't come back on. I have tried f -11 , which in an old post here says it will access a hidden partition that has a restore section. Dunno when to hit it. If I don't push anything I see a DOS prompt that tells me "BOOTMGR" is missing.

Any ideas or suggestions? Dell told me that this model won't run Vista or Windows 7. It was upgraded to 2 gigs of ram to play World of Warcraft awhile ago.

Please post in XP or Vista forum (there's really no "DOS" in either). (moderator--move please appropriately)
