Specs: Windows XP
I have 2 week old thumb drive that worked for a little while, but now it doesn't work anymore, saying it needs to be formatted, but it will not format. I have tried Winxp, WinVista and Linux. I even t5ried a command window while in both XP and Vista

That's not really a question, but I'll do my best to address it anyway. I've seen this happen on two or three different Flash drives. As silly as it sounds, I've found that if you disassemble the flash drive and short out the leads on the chip while running a format tool, it will kickstart it enough to be formatted again normally.

If it is only two weeks old, are you able to take it back to where it was purchased?

I personally would not attempt Mr Junction's method above.

This is the dos forum, have you tried:-

dos FORMAT

if that does not work:-

dos FDISK and then dos FORMAT

Advise back how you get on.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
