Specs: Windows 7
How can I determine the version of DOS that's on a floppy disk that contains mostly DOS files including Command.com? If I try the VER Command I get the VER of Windows 2000 my computer's OS.

All you had to do was check the date of command.com and post that back. Each dos versioin had an exclusive date.

Or you could have booted from the disk (if it was bootable) and then done the VER.

DAVEINCAPS: Thanks for the advice. It hadn't occured to me that the DOS VER could be obtained from the date of the COMMAND.COM nor who would have that information readily available. I had several 5-1/4 floppies that I wanted the DOS VERs of and none were bootable in my old computer because only the 3-1/2 drive is bootable. However, I was able to get their VERs by following Jolicloud's advice. Dingaling

I thought I'd seen some lists with dos versions by file date but couldn't find them. But if you google the file date you'll get hits indicating the version. For example, googling "5-31-94" "dos version" will give hits telling you it's version 6.22.

DAVEINCAPS: Thanks, again. I hadn't thought about your method. That's why I'm the Dingaling. I'll check it out. The Dingaling.
