error: HIMEM not installed

June 5, 2010 at 00:11:37
Specs: DOS 6.22
Formatted the C: drive and performed a 4-disk
boot sequence to install a display software on
a HMI PC. Disk 1 is the boot disk with MS-
DOS 6.22. After installation is completed I
typed "1" to to execute the software, however
immediately on the first line says: "error:
HIMEM is not installed in the config.sys. I
checked the "config.sys" and "autoexec.bat"
with the other working PC and found they are
identical. Appreciate for help/guidance on what
seems to be the problem. Thanks

By '4-disk boot sequence' I guess you mean the 4-disk dos 6.22 installation set. So you ran those and installed 6.22 on the hard drive. Then you rebooted from the hard drive and got the messages as config.sys and autoexec.bat were executed, one of which was 'himem is testing extended memory'.

If all that happens then himem.sys is installed, well barring a ram error that keeps it from loading. But you'd get some kind of error message if that happened.

Maybe the 'display software' needs something that that PC or 6.22 can't supply?

You may have a good config.sys but HIMEM may not be where config says it is.

Put a PAUSE as the first line in autoexec.bat and see wht it says.
