Data from LPT1 to another PC

March 24, 2011 at 02:43:41
Specs: Windows XP
I have a DOS / UNIX based one PC that prints data to Dot matrix printer through LPT1 port. How can I connect DOS / UNIX based PC LPT1 output to my Windows PC so the data would not be printed but would be saved as text file on my PC.
Please suggest the software and hardware requirement.

There is a util from PCMag, circa 1986, that captures data headed for LPT1 and saves it to file.

BUT [Here's the but part.] It's not a text file. It will contain the control codes.

Look for PRN2FILE on simtel or fuunet.

Life is too important to be taken seriously.

Would it be possible for the application concerned to print directly to an ascii disk file?

If so, the file can then be moved where you want.

Another thought, is to print using a serial/com port, which makes connecting to another pc much easier.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
