As M2 pointed out there is no shutdown for any DOS version. Once loaded the operating system is always active until there is power to the CPU. It was planned and designed to be a standalone system and to own total control of hardware.

Possible if the power supply and bios supports it and you have
software that would activate.

It's frustrating when someone hands you a gem like this and you don't know which way to go with it. How about:

Did you try the voice command "Computer Off"?

You're not really green until you're soylent green.

DIAMOND DAVE,

Reminds me of Scotty in Star Trek IV.

That's what I was thinking. I remember Kirk, or whoever, would say "computer on" and the computer would respond with that mechanical female voice, "Working".

You're not really green until you're soylent green.

Someone asked me about that a while back but I never found anything. I think there are .wav files out there with some of the more popular star trek quotes.

Glass Packs--The sound of freedom.

In DOS you can just press the power button to shutdown. It makes no sense to type EXIT from the command prompt. All that does is quit command.com - which quits anyway when you switch off.

Sorry, but i never heard about a DOS version 3.11!

There definitely was a version 2.11 and there were versions 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 afaik and of course there was WINDOWS version 3.11 which ran on top of DOS.

So what are we actually talking about?
