I'm guessing the MSDOS method won't work because the c: drive is formatted as NTFS. You have a couple of options: If you plan to reinstall, have you tried booting from the XP CD and just following the prompts to install Windows? - you will get the option to format the disk from there.

The second option, if you intend to install from within the drive or whatever, is to use FDISK from the MSDOS command - the disk will be recognised as having a non-FAT partition but just go ahead & delete it then create a new FAT partition which you will then be able to format.

You're probably getting the NTLDR message because you're booting from the hard drive instead of the XP cd. Change the boot order in cmos/bios setup so the cdrom is first.

You don't use dos, especiially an older fat16 version like 6.22, to prep a drive for XP. Only use it, as already mentioned, if you actually want to install 6.22.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
