Specs: MS-DOS 6.22, N/A
hi guys, was there ever a FULL retail (i.e boxed) version of dos 6.222 released, because all the ones i can find on ebay appear to be upgrade versions? What version of DOS do you think it would most likely upgrade from?

My 6.22 upgrade upgrades from 5.00 and 3.30. Get a bootdisk of any previous version of DOS and then apply the upgrade set.. What matters are the three system files

- command.com
- msdos.sys
- io.sys

All other files are stuff for the upgrading process.

I assume they did but I have two boxed sets that are upgrades. The full version ones I have are OEM.

I found this:

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/sy...

It says:

"These are Full Version, free standing. Microsoft had to sell as upgrade due to Bill Gates' prior dealings with IBM."

If that's true then all retail boxes are labeled as upgrades.

I found this too:

http://www.emsps.com/oldtools/msdos...

Scroll down to 'dos 6.22'. The three boxes are all marked as upgrades but are described as 'Full, NFR (not for resale) and 3-Pack'.

You can do a full install with the upgrade (with no prior version). Read what I posted (some years ago):

You may have the full versioin or you may have an upgrade but apparently the box will call them both upgrades. So try installing as if you've got the full version. You'll get an error if you actually have the upgrade version. Then, as T-R-A says you can still do the install with the upgrade disks.

Wow somehow I actually have both the upgrade and the full install floppies of 6.22. But then again I buy about every old set of floppies I find at garage sales.
