Why can't my MP4 video be played?

Specs: several
I made an .avi video with a Canon digital camera, then
converted it to .mp4 to reduce the filesize from more than
87 MB to less than 23 MB, using this program:

Free_AVI_to_MP4_Converter_32bit.exe

I then made it an attachment in an email. The person I
sent it to has not been able to view it. She downloaded
the attachment and first tried to open it with MS Movies
and TV. She got this error message:

> Choose something else to play.
> This item is in a format we don't support.

Next she tried to open it in Win Media Player and got this:

> Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.

Lastly she tried opening it in Lenovo Power DVD and got this:

> Decoder error.

When I click on the file, it plays in VLC with no problem.
When I right-click on it and open it with Windows Media Player,
the audio plays but there is no video.

I have placed a copy on File Convoy for you to examine. It will
remain there for ten days.

The content is completely harmless. 46 seconds.

What went wrong and how do I fix it?

It works fine. Tell your friend to install VLC player.
