What product should I buy?

Specs: Windows 7
I need to buy the least expensive video camera/monitor so that I can monitor a horse that is about to foal 24/7. I need to be able to see the monitor while I am at work or in my home. The camera will be mounted in her stall. The house is about 500 feet from the stall. What do I need to buy?

"I need to be able to see the monitor while I am at work or in my home."

That means you need something that works over IP. This certainly isn't the only solution, but it's a start:

Have you asked your local friendly vets what they use (if anything); I assume sleeping in the barn isn't an option.

How far along is she?

If you go the wireless route you will probably need a repeater in between the router and the camera. Wireless at best is only good for approx. 300 feet.

You might look at cameras that use a wired network, then you can use a device that carries the network signal over the AC power lines. It's called IP over AC. You can get these at Best Buy or any large computer store. They run about $50 bucks.

Have a look at some of the D-Link cameras, they come with software to stream the video to your smartphone.
