unable to play movies in avi/dvd rip format

Specs: Windows XP, via samuel 2 796 mhz motherboard/512 mb ram
i'm not able to play movies in avi or dvd rip format with my via samuel 2 796 mhz processor an mercury motherboard, even i download k lite codecs from net also.

Try vlc or km player.

Given your systems specs ("WinXP...796 mhz motherboard/512 mb ram"), you may find that videos will be a little jerky, especially if they're hi-def. As kuwese mentions, VLC & The KMPlayer would be your best choices.
