problems with playing back flip videos on win

February 20, 2011 at 22:58:43
Specs: Windows XP
My mother loaded videos from her Flip camcorder & she has always been able to play them back on her laptop (windows xp) anyway, suddenly on windows media player, after she clicks to play a video clip - it just sits there. The screen/picture does not move but the time shows as if its being played.
What can I do to fix this for her?

Sounds like either a codec or overlay problem. Down load and install gSpot and use it to determine whether or not the appropriate codecs are installed. If gSpot says the codecs are installed, check for an "overlays" setting in either Media Player or your display adapter (video card). You might also try updating the video driver from the manufacturers website. Never use video drivers (or ANY hardware drivers, for that matter) from Windows Update, as they are often buggy.
