problems downloading Simm card

April 16, 2011 at 07:40:32
Specs: Windows Vista
Recently I was transferring pictures from a camera SD card to my computer(Vista OS) via drag and drop and the transfer interrupted after about 35% complete. It just hung. I let it continue to try for several min, to no avail. I then tried to use task mgr to stop the process so could start over. Couldn't. Finally restarted the computer. Really don't remember whether removed the SD card before restarting or not. Anyway, after restart, the SD card was empty but only the 35% showed up in the computer file receiving the xfer. The same 35% went to windows gallery. Where did the remainder go? A temp file somewhere?
Any help would be appreciated.

Next time instead of drag and drop (move) use copy. It is somewhat safer in that the original is not deleted.

I agree with wizard-fred.

I always make sure I have everything on my PC before deleting from the SD card or source so I too use Copy versus Move.

I personally use right click method on everything and choose Copy Here as it relates to images from SD Card to PC. Many years ago I took a Windows course and the instructor kept pushing "use right click". I asked why when it requires two click of the mouse. His answer was "once you get used to it then you will never go back" and I found he was correct. The best reason was I always perform the task I wanted and rarely say "Oops".

The data is likely still available on the SD card using one of the recommended programs to recover the data. Don't take any more pictures before running the recovery process.
