Solved problem exposure using Nikon 80-200 F2.8 ED Lens

June 27, 2014 at 01:07:30
Specs: Macintosh
I use this lens on a Nikon D300 but the exposure metering is reversed. When I set it at 5.6 - the image is over exposed (200 ISO)
but when I open it up at 2.8 the camera is perfectly exposed

I would suspect either the lens isn't sending the correct information to the camera about the aperture or the camera isn't properly interpreting the data the lens is sending it. Either way this is most likely something a camera technician is going to have to fix.

You might try doing a reset on the camera. Looking around on the Interweb it looks like there are two buttons on the back of the camera marked with green dots. Hold those down for 5 seconds. You might also consult the manual and see if there is another way to do a hard reset.

See here for a picture of the buttons - https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an...

There is also a phone number for Nikon support on this page.

Just thinking aloud - any chance that there is automatic setting that is changing the shutter speed when you change the F number?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I don't know that particular, like I said, I was just thinking aloud.

There is a D300 manual here (that can be saved) so maybe that might help:

Otherwise Nikon themselves might be your best port of call. Maybe someone else will pipe up on here so keep watching.
