My computer won't read any of my camera memory cards anymore

June 5, 2012 at 11:13:54
Specs: Windows Vista, Phenom (tm) 8450 Triple-Core Processor 2.10 GHz/ 4.00 GB
My computer wont read any memory card anymore and i'm not sure why. I am not very good with computer and am younger so idk what to do. My computer used to read memory card's just fine but now it won't. I have a slot in my tower i put them into and either auto play or HP photosmart would run automatically and now they wont. I tried card recovery but in "My Computer" it doesn't even show I have anything inserted into the computer so I don't know what drive to choose. I went through every single drive and none worked.

Normally I say something like try it in another computer. The problem is that the other computer may have a virus that can infect the flash drive.

If the flash cards work correctly in a camera then maybe buy a cheap usb card reader and see if it can read the disks.

Put a folder called autorun.inf on every flash card and usb flash you own. It helps prevent a virus.

Hang up and live.

This isn't for a flasd card its for a memory stick in my camera. and I have tried 5 sd cards and they dont work. I can almost guarantee they don't ALLLLLL have a virus. There is no way. Especially when some are old and havent been used for awhile and worked just fine last time i tried. Im trying to do this without spending money also. There has got to be a way. And the cord for my camera doesn't work so that's out too.

Any errors showing in Device Manager against the card reader?

Here's how to get to Device Manager:

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I don't care what type of flash card it is. Try it on a different reader.

To protect your system put an autorun.inf FOLDER on it.

Hang up and live.
