There's not usually much you can do with cameras from the outside, unless the settings are incorrect.

However, give us the camera make and model number, also can you describe the symptoms a little more clearly - not sure what is meant by "sluggish" or "not taking action pictures like it used to"?

Maybe with the above information someone will have some ideas.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Now that you bring this to my attention, I wonder if my parent's
camera, a Canon PowerShot SD750 from 2008, has this problem.
I've noticed that it takes a while from the time the button is pressed
until the photo is taken. Possibly a quarter or a third of a second.
That may not have always been so.

Make sure that you have a reasonable amount of space left on the SD memory card, if the space is limited then it will take time fitting the image onto the disk.
Try another SD card to see if that makes a difference.
Is the SD card fast enough? Today's cameras need faster memory cards than older cameras due to higher resolutions. SD cards come in class 2,4,6,8,10 which indicate the speed it can save at.
Try lowering the resolution and check other settings.
Note that in lower light, some cameras take longer to autofocus.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
