Irfanview can do it in a Batch Conversion/Rename operation:

Just reduce the size or quality of the images in the folder:

Strongly suggest you output to a different folder when doing this, so you won't overwrite the original images.

jpg's are already compressed so zipping them will make little or no difference.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hmmmm....it makes a considerable difference when I just tried it (because you mentioned it) on 24 pics

Jpegs, along with mp3s are already in a compressed format. However depending on the level of compression applied to them, you may be able to shrink them more but it purley depends on how much compression was applied to them when the file was created.

As a rule of thumb, I would agree with Derek in that you normally get very little difference trying to compress it more with Zipping or Raring them.

"Considerable" is a bit broad, any figures?

I just zipped 24 jpg's too, for the heck of it. The 24 pics were 19.5M and the zip file was exactly the same size.

I then repeated this with some larger pictures. The 24 pics this time totalled 40.6M and the zip file was 40.5M

If I tried this with 24 poorly compressed jpg's it would make a small difference but the fact remains that jpg's are already compressed files.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
