No there wouldn't be any need to format a cd-r disk. Have you had this problem before? What burning software are you using?

✔ Best Answer
The only time you are likely to want to format a CD is if it is a CD-RW and you are using it in Copy/Paste or drag and drop mode. As per #1 it does not apply in your situation.

Are you sure your drive (not driver) is capable of writing discs and isn't just a reader? What burning software are you using?

I AM USING THE WRITING WIZARD THAT IS INSTALLED IN MY DELL DESKTOP COMPUTER. SHOULD I DOWNLOAD DIFFERENT SOFTWARE. THIS IS CONTINUALLY TELLING ME TO INSERT A WRITABLE DISC AND I HAVE REPEATEDLY DONE SO. THEY ARE BRAND NEW HP CD-R DISCS. YES, MY COMPUTER DOES HAVE BURNING CAPABILITIES. IT'S A DELL E510, ENVISION I BELIEVE. GETTING VERY FRUSTRATED.

Lower case please.

If it is when you use this pre-installed Wizard then using another software would tell us whether the software is the problem or something else.

Try it with this simple burner (free) and let us know if you get the same message:

After install you just run the program from its icon and select from the list - for pictures you use "Data disc".

If you do get the same message then you probably have a problem with either the CD's or the drive.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
