I would like to download these pictures to my computer but do not know how. Should I have an
app to do this transfer?

You can connect the camera to the computer with a USB cable. Apparently the cable looks like this:

The computer will see the camera's SD card as a drive and you can transfer the pictures as you would any other files. If you're using the camera's internal memory and not a memory card you'll probably need to download the software from Nikon in order to transfer the pictures.

Or you can remove the SD card from the camera (again, assumes you're not using internal memory) and use a card reader attached to the computer to read and copy the pictures. If your computer doesn't have a built in card reader you can buy one just about anywhere.
