Most likely the memory card itself has failed. Have you tried another?

Sometimes it is possible to retrieve at least some of the data - just depends how badly it is corrupted. Firstly you will need a USB card reader if there isn't one already fitted in your computer. You could try this freebie on it:
https://filehippo.com/download_recuva

If that doesn't help then this might:
https://www.z-a-recovery.com/downlo...
(it was used against all odds in a difficult case on here).

I'm afraid it is a bit hit or miss but you might be lucky.

bought a new memory card worked fine. have not tried the other suggestions of downloading as I don't understand computers very well, if I have a problem I am lost and don't have children or grandchildren around to help so before I try to download will see if I can find somebody to work with me when I do it.
I Checked with best buy greek squard to see what they thought but it would cost be a fortune for them to check it out, even as much as in the 1,000.
Thanks again for your help

Nope, avoid geek squad and, as you say, see if you can get a friend to help. If you can work out some way to plug the card into your computer (or someone else's) check it out because there is always a vague chance you might be able to read it and save the contents somewhere.

had somebody see what they could do, which they said they had a better program than what you indicated so he did not try yours. his program told him he had to reformat the card but would not do it unless I gave him the ok. He said most likely the pictures would be gone if he reformatted it. any suggestions

Nothing lost in trying the programs I gave - you might be lucky.

Otherwise there is not much you can do.

It's always best to back up important stuff.

For backing up important stuff just copy the files onto a portable hard disk.
