I have Canon MV400 which I have now stopped using but have all my daughters growing up on them and would now like to put them on my computer/DVD - a camera shop told me there was no way of connecting it to computer and as a technophob! i didn't bother to argue but reading all the stuff on the forums there must be something i can do but can someone explain to me in a form I would understand? thanks in anticipation.
What output connections does this have ? It will be shown in the manual ?
a camera shop told me there was no way of connecting it to computer Must be a fly by nite camera shop or uneducated salesmen/women.
You need a capture device to run a cable from your cam to your PC. Radio shack should have it.
If you have a firewire connection that would be real easy, just buy a cable from cam to firewire. You said computer so I presume you mean a tower. If your computer does not have a firewire slot, pci cards are really cheap:

Once you have those connected you can use Picasa

to record your tape to your PC.
Let me know how you make out, thanks and then go back to the camera store and tell them to get educated on their products LOLSome HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
thank you so much for your replies. Unfortunately I don't have the manual but is says DV out on front of camera - anyway I will now try to track a cable for camera to computer - and find out what Firewire slot and pci card are!!
If it is a 400i model it will have Firewire, the non i Models had no firewire, afaik
