Solved how can i get a scratched dvd to play content

Specs: Windows 10
dvd will not play content recorded about 10 years ago,will just show intro but freezes afterwards the dvd has got scratches but is in fairly good shape when i put through the dvd player it makes a churning noise like its just spinning with no content

A few scratches shouldn't affect it. There are methods to polish a disk if that is the reason. Check this google search:

I notice one there recommends toothpaste. I've tried that before and it is too abrasive.

But before you try any of that make sure the problem is not with the player. Clean the disk and then try it in other players

I agree that toothpaste is too abrasive. I tried it once and the disk went very cloudy. Just washing up liquid and warm water using your thumb to work from center to outside (not circling the disk) works fine. Rinse off with warm water and dry thoroughly with kitchen towel.

Try copying the disk afterwards. Strangely I have found that sometimes works even when a disk doesn't play.

As given in #1 make sure it is not your DVD player that is at fault.
