HDMI connection not supported???

Specs: Windows 8, 2.401 GHz Intel i7-3630QM/ 8052 MB DDR3 1600Mhz
I plugged my brand new (6hrs old!) Laptop computer into my TV screen using an HDMI cable. Yet the TV gives my a HDMI mode not supported message. I've never had this before. I've connected my parent's computer to their TV without a hitch; why should my laptop be any different?
My TV is a Samsung 50inch plasma.

That error is often generated when a defective/faulty HDMI cable is being used. It's not the only possible cause but try new HDMI cable first before looking elsewhere.

HDMI cable works fine. Used it on my Blu Ray player and it worked great. Tried different cable and same result. I'm thinking it might have to do with the way my computer allocates the graphics resources between my graphics card and the integrated graphics, since i've already had problems with that hooking up a VGA monitor.

Any more help?

Exact message: "Mode not supported". TV is a Samsung 50 inch plasma model: PN51D430A3D

I'm not really a TV or HDMI guy, i'm more into the solid computer realm.
