cd drive says nothing on disk but there is

Specs: Windows XP
received a dvd copy of my party taken by a friends camcorder plays in my dvd player but when I tried to make another copy on my computer the drive says there is nothing on the disk has the disk been burnt in a particular formate.

Possibly the DVD has been created in a non-PC standard format

Can you can import DVD from the DVD player to the PC, do you have a capture card ?

Have you tried the disc in a different computer?
Some computers as well as DVD players don't read -R DVD's

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

Hi X86 thanks for that I thought that might be the case I have an old capture device that I used to put video onto my pc from a camcorder and a video player do you think that might work.

Hi xp no I hav'nt but I have played a lot of -r dvds on this pc so I dont think thats the problem.
