Capturing video to pc software using hdmi

Specs: Windows 7
I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 on my Win 7 pc. My PC has an hdmi port but not a firewire port. I can transfer the files either using the optical disk in the camcorder or by using an sd card. However Premiere then inputs the whole video as one file instead of detecting the scenes. I can only find the option to dectect scenes if I capture the video live from the camera. I want to buy a new camcorder but camcorders with firewires are becoming rare these days, the port being replaced by an hdmi port. Can anyone advise please, if I purchase a camcorder with an hdmi port and lead will I being able to capture the video from the camcorder using this connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your computer's HDMI port is most likely an output, not an input. Buying a camera with an HDMI out wont work with this port. YoU can buy HDMI video capture cards that would satisfy your needs. Google for HDMI video capture and you will find what you need.
