Can't open pictures on my XD camera card from Olympus C-50. I have always used a card reader to transfer jpeg files to my computer. When I attempted to do so today, only a sliver of the picture at the top opened. But the pictures showed up on preview. After several further attempts, the computer stated that I needed to format the "disc." This on my XP computer. I tried to open them again using the card reader with my Win7 laptop but no preview and again wanted me to format the camera card.

If I format the card, I will lose my pictures and I am leery of formating a camera card in either computer.

Don't bother formatting the card anyway because it is obviously unreliable now and needs replacing. It will only get worse so buy a new one, they wear out eventually and that's when you see the format prompt. Try this recovery software before throwing it away:

Thanks for the response, Phil22. I dug out my old camera box and installed software that came with it. I was then able to download and view the pictures in that program, Camedia Master 4.1. I think will get a new XD card though. My only problem now is finding where the software hid the Album! Search turned up nothing.
