canon FVM 100 problem video import into computer

February 25, 2012 at 21:57:13
Specs: Windows 7
Hi, Canon FVM 100 using firewire connector(one end with 4 pin and the other end with USB cable) COULD not import video from video tape to computer. I have windows movie maker 2.6 and windows live movie maker software. I searched movie maker 2.1 and cannot find in standalone version. I downloaded windows xp sp2(some said 2.1 is inside XP-SP2) but which could not apply/install on windows7. I did as below:
1. connect camcorder via fire wire cable to computer.
2. switch to VCR mode and play the recording.
3. open movie maker 2.6 or live version.
4. None of movie maker software or windows explorer can recognize camcorder as a device.
Any help to point out any step or software missing in what I did. I really thank you.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. My cam has usb port and dv port. When I used IEEE1394 4 pin cable which has USB port at the other end.As you said, my comp does not have IEEE slot. I downloaded video with my old computer(Windows XP) successfully before. The following post mentioned that I could download using Movie Maker 2.1 which I don't know where could I get standalone version. I just posted here to get different solution or option.

The original cable was a usb cable with a firewire type conne ctor at the camera end. There also was software supplied.

Try the Canon Software, but whatever software you use, XP should recognise a device is plugged in:
