Specs: Windows 7
I just inserted my camera card into my laptop to download pics and it wants to format the card. I put it in my camera as well and it now wants to format the card as well. I have special vacation pictures on this card and don't want to lose them!! My camera won't let me do anything now-it demands the format. I CAN'T lose those photos!! What do I do???

Just an idea (none too hopeful):

Turn off the computer, put in the camera card and see if it will let you explore the card from "Computer" after you have booted up again with the card in situ.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I formatted the card and it got rid of everything. I have now tried 3 different programs to restore the pics and all 3 say there is nothing on the card!!!

Why on earth did you format before taking the advice from helpers? What 3 progs did you try?
You should have used the restoration progs BEFORE you reformatted....

I couldn't!! My computer would not allow me to do anything. The second I put the card in it said it had to be formatted. I tried Recuva, Pandora and Card Recovery. AND the reason I couldn't wait very long for an answer is because I am on vacation now and figured I would have to retake some pictures on a new card. We leave for home in a few hours.

Why do so many people try to rely on only memory card? And go on trips with valuable pictures on the card not backed up? I try to start with a new card. Test the card and batteries before going.

I did. I had taken pictures and viewed them on the camera the night before and everything was fine.

I have had success with this photo recovery software... Download the program from
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press “Start” and wait for it to do it’s magic.

If above does not work, you may have to format the memory card (use quick format), and then use above mentioned software to scan again the memory card and recover your files.
