best low cpu usage codec

Specs: Windows XP/Ubuntu, 1.0ghz/512mb

am trying to get some stuff from a comcorder

and i cant compressed it with a good resolution because my cpu is to slow

whats a good program or codec to use so i can get a good res ( the tv res some thing like 700x500 cant remember)

at the moment i need to do it by 300x200 which makes the video look very bad

Whatever codec or program you use, video editing/authoring/encoding requires a modern, fast CPU, around 2.4Ghz single-core or 1.7Ghz dual-core. There's no way around that if you want high quality video, and 300x200 is well short of that.

Well i can get uncompressed AVI just fine

so can i then put that on my faster laptop and then compress it there ?

hes a other thing am thinking about :
