When I Burn after converting a avi to dvd the movie stops for a few seconds on my DVD/VCR combo (Samsung V9800 old school) I burn to DVD +R and DVD R DL disks with various manufacturers bought from Bi-Mart, WalMart and Best Buy. I use verbatim and memorex DVD Lightscribe Discs it happens with them too. The happens usually at the beginning and end of the disk.

To burn them I am using AVS Video Converter

Is there a better way to do this? What disks should I use? Is there a good brand of disks that you would recommend?

Well if you've tried different brands and it still behaves the same I would say the problem lies in your burning software and not the brand of disk.

What software are you using to burn the DVD?

Maybe try a couple of troubleshooting ideas. Try burning a diffent format than avi. Do these avi videos all come from the same source? Try burning an mpeg video. Also, try playing them back in a different DVD player
