Advice needed on digital camera with video

Specs: Windows 7
I have a Sony Cyber-shot, 12.1 mega pixels digital camera. This was bought in August of 2010. I also bought a Dell studio xps desktop computer at that same time. (birth of a new granddaughter)
I have had so many problems getting many of my pictures or videos to even open. There are so many different file extensions, like modd or mov that I get an error message saying the file is corrupt.
I am trying to learn about digital photography as well as computing in general. The last forum I posted this on, not this one, I got responses that addressed the fact that it is a Sony camera.
When and if I can afford to buy another camera, what would you suggest. I'm looking at a mid-range price of abound $200.
Thank you for your help

the problem might not be the camera, but the fact that you dont have the programs to play those file types.
try downloading videolan (vlc player) it plays pretty much anything, and make sure you have the latest drivers for your camera installed as well.

as for a camera, i recently bought a samsung 14mp, cant remember the model, but it's a fantastic camera for its cost...£140

Whoever told you that the problem was a Sony camera had no idea what they we talking about. I've had a Sony Cybershot and it worked beautifully.

As Taco suggested, download the VLC player, it will play mov files. If you want a good picture viewer, download Irfanview,
