Windows Media Player does not remember MP3

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/serv...

Specs: Windows XP-PRO
XP-PRO SP3 all the updates.

When I double-click an MP3 file I get the "Open With" window with WMP highlighted. I tick the box "Always use the selected program..." and the file plays OK. However, the next time I select an MP3 I again get the "Open With" window. This happens no matter how often I tick the "Always use..." box. I've checked Tools/Folder Options/Filetypes and MP3 is set to WMP. I've checked in WMP Options/Filetypes and MP3 is ticked. Yet I continually have to select WMP as the player.

Any ideas ?

It's V11. How set up ? Not sure what you mean, it was installed as part of XP-PRO and is right up to date.
