Wanting to protect map product from being copied

Specs: Windows 64
How do I lock a Garmin .img file to an SD Card serial number so it can only be used by the Garmin unit it is inserted in and not be copied to another SD card or PC?

It isn't possible to do that.

I beg to differ. I had an .img file on an SD Card from a Honda GoldWing Garmin GPS. When a made a backup copy to another SD Card the map (.img file) was non-functional. It included an .unl file (unlock) which is basically just a 25 digit code.

I obtained a hack to unlock the file on the new SD Card to make it useable thereby protecting my original OEM SD card.

Now I am creating custom .img files (maps) and wish to simarly lock them either to a SD Card or downloadable file. I'm looking for non-propriatary software or pssibly a script that will allow me to accomplish the same thing Garmin was able to do.

Thanks for the reply though. Seems this function is not well known as I have not gotten an answer on other forums either.
