Playing USB/HDD in Ordinary DVD Player ?

Specs: Windows XP
I have Philips DVD player which can play only DVDs/CDs inserted. But, I want know whether it is possible to play USB Pendrive and USB HDD on this player by attaching some out side accessories. To a similar quiery on this forum, some gentlleman answered like this"Buy USB to 3rc cable and male & female USB connector. 3rc put in dvd input and attach pendrive to USB connector." Then you can play video and audio files in the usb pendrive like dvd. I am not
clear about this. "3rc put in dvd input" means what? Dvd player in question is having only Video and Audio output sockets. Where is and what is DVD input and how to connect 3rc to DVD input? whether same gentleman or someother expert can help me in this regard?

I have no idea what a 3rc cable is. The only thing I can make sense of is that he wants you to get a cable that has USB on one end and the Red White and Yellow cable on the other and plug that into the Input of your DVD player. That wouldn't work because your USB Pendrive needs power.

I have a Philips DVD player that already has USB so I can use my USB Pendrive or a HDD. Very handy. Look around for a DVD player like that and it may be less hassle.
