I have a Blu Ray drive on my Laptop, and it seems the only way I can get audio through playing Blu Rays is if I watch the movie on my laptop; I cannot use an HDMI on my HDTV.

What's weird is I'll get sound through the beginning movie advertisements and even on the title screen, but as soon as I press play and the movie begins I lose sound.

I have an HDMI going from my laptop to my TV and an optical cable going from my TV to my surround sound. I can play music or anything else fine, any other sounds work. Just not the movie.

Anyway, any suggestions are appreciated. I've done everything I know to do.

Also, why are there almost no media players than can play Blu Rays?

" why are there almost no media players than can play Blu Rays?"

Because most software "media players" aren't designed to play DVD-Video of any sort, let alone BR-Video. They are designed to play the various software video formats (mpg, avi, mp4 etc).

Most commercial software DVD-players can play BR 'cos that's their primary purpose - playing DVD-Movie discs - so BR is just a natural progression of that.
